National Mental Health Promotion and Prevention Working Party (PPWP)The first phase of the National Mental Health Strategy was adopted by all Health Ministers in 1992 and was subsequently endorsed by the Second National Mental Health Plan in 1998 and the National Mental Health Plan (2003-2008). The National Mental Health Promotion and Prevention Working Party (PPWP) is jointly auspiced by the AHMAC National Mental Health Working Group and the National Public Health Partnership Group (NPHPG). It was established by the Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Branch, Australian Government, Department of Health and Ageing to provide assistance and advice on national promotion and prevention activities under the National Mental Health Strategy. It includes nominees from the auspicing groups as well as representatives of key stakeholder groups. National Action Plan for Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental HealthThe PPWP developed the National Action Plan for Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental Health (Action Plan 2000) and its companion monograph to provide a strategic framework for enhancing promotion, prevention and early intervention. The work program for the PPWP supports national policy development for promotion, prevention and early intervention for mental health and complements, and will be supported by, implementation of activities drawn from Action Plan 2000 by Auseinet – the Australian Network for Promotion, Prevention and Early Intervention for Mental Health.
