Legislation Reference NetworkThe Application of Risk Management Principles in Public Health LawNovember 2000 This project was commissioned by Victoria on behalf of the Legislation Reform Working Group and undertaken by Dr Chris Reynolds. The report considers how principles of risk assessment and risk management can be reflected in public health legislation. The report focuses on risk in the context of environmental health issues such as nuisance, insanitary condition powers and offences that put the health of the community at risk. This report builds on the New Zealand Report, The Development of Public Health Risk Management Methodology to Inform Decision Making. It examines how objects provisions and the precautionary principle can provide a basis for consideration of public health risk and how public participation and community values can become part of the process of public health administration. The report was approved by the National Public Health Partnership Group in May 2000 and was endorsed by AHMAC in November 2000. Download as PDF
