Legislation Reference NetworkNotifiable Diseases and Notification MechanismsEndorsed AHMAC November 2000 South Australia has taken a lead agency role in this project, which describes model mechanisms for incorporating a national list of notifiable diseases into a uniform legislative framework together with model notification requirements. The report considers how a national list of notifiable diseases could be incorporated into legislation and amended, as needed, the requirements to notify, the basis for notification and timeframe for reporting, to whom the reports are made and the nature of penalties to apply. The list of nationally notifiable diseases was agreed through Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA) and was noted by AHMAC at its June 2000 meeting as the basis for further work on Notification Mechanisms being undertaken by LRWG. The Legislation Reference Network has worked with CDNA to finalise this report, which has been approved by the National Public Health Partnership Group and was endorsed by AHMAC in November 2000. The second phase of this work currently being undertaken by the LRN and CDNA relates to the management of infected persons. Download as PDF
