Screening and surveillance

Child Health Screening and Surveillance: Supplementary Document - Context and Next Steps [PDF, 163kb] (September 2002). The Child and Youth Health Intergovernmental Partnership (CHIP), a subcommittee of the National Public Health Partnership, developed this paper. The paper includes:

• a very brief summary of the report Child Health Screening and Surveillance: A Critical Review of the Evidence (February 2002);

• an outline of the context for screening and surveillance as one part of prevention and early detection of child health problems; and

• proposals for the next steps for taking the review recommendations forward.

The full review report is available from the NHMRC website at http://www.nhmrc.gov.au/publications/synopses/ch42syn.htm.

CHIP will consider the outcomes of this review in the context of the finalisation and implementation of the priority action areas of the National Public Health Strategic Framework for Children 2005-2008.

Child health data collection and monitoring

The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) has provided a background paper to CHIP on the existing significant child population-based data and information sources and reporting arrangements of jurisdictions and additional groups. The paper, Child-Related Data Sources will inform the National Public Health Information Plan currently being developed by the National Public Health Information Working Group (NPHIWG) , and underpin the strategic priorities of data collection and monitoring for the National Public Health Action Plan for children.
