Brief summary including goals and objectives

The NEPSS SC Terms of Reference are:

  • The Steering Committee will establish a Service Agreement for the National Enteric Pathogen Surveillance System (NEPSS) with clearly defined performance indicators, which must be met to ensure future funding;
  • The Steering Committee will establish protocols for NEPSS for reporting to, and interacting with, the Steering Committee;
  • Review adherence of NEPSS to the performance indicators. This will include an annual review by the Steering Committee;
  • Review the funding of NEPSS every three years, or as required, and make recommendations to the National Public Health Partnership Group through the Communicable Diseases Network Australia;
  • Provide policy advice to the Australian Department of Health and Ageing, the Communicable Diseases Network Australia, Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry - Australia (AFFA) and the Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) on improving the surveillance of food borne disease in Australia, including links between NEPSS and the sentinel site network;
  • Establish closer, formalised links with OzFoodNet and NNDSS (as per recommendations of OzFoodNet Review); and
  • Maintain current NEPSS functions and explore options for enhancing operations.
