Environmental Health Systems - Economic Evaluation of Environmental Health Implementation Plan Projects Currently Underway Need Addressed (as identified in National Environmental Health Strategy Implementation Plan): A new paradigm for environmental health economics, by building on the linkages between environmental and health economic techniques. Jurisdiction: Queensland Health on behalf of enHealth Council Project: Public health economics is generally based on a clinical framework that determines the cost of disease for an individual, the cost of interventions and the overall impact on the community. This approach has limited applicability in many areas of environmental health, therefore a perspective that considers traditional health economics with a framework for valuation of the environment, may be the preferable approach for evaluating environmental health. The Guidelines for Economic Evaluation of Environmental Health and Assessment - Consultation Draft, was distributed to core stakeholders in July 2002. A final set of guidelines is currently being developed, based on the consultation process and feedback from a workshop held in Sydney in August 2002. It is envisaged that the guidelines will be ready for publication by the end of December 2002 and will be available on this website.
