National Indigenous Environmental Health Forum The National Indigenous Environmental Health Forum (NIEHF) was established as a result of a recommendation from the Second National Indigenous Environmental Health Workshop held in Broome in May 1999. This workshop recognised that Indigenous Environmental Health Workers (IEHWs) play a central role in Indigenous Australian communities and need to be well trained, properly supported and given adequate recognition by their peers and community if they are to be fully effective. The enHealth Council established the NIEHF as a reference group to support IEHWs and to identify and provide policy advice to the enHealth Council on Indigenous environmental health issues. The Chair of the NIEHF is a member of the enHealth Council. The establishment of the Indigenous Environmental Health Forum, under the enHealth Council, will provide IEHWs with a forum to discuss issues of importance to the profession and to have a more active voice in decision making.
