The National Public Health Partnership (NPHP)

As of 30 June 2006 the National Public Health Partnership (NPHP) was replaced with the Australian Health Protection Committee (AHPC) and the Australian Population Health Development Principal Committee (APHDPC), two Principal Committees of AHMAC.

This website provides a historical record of the projects undertaken by the NPHP and is no longer updated. New websites for the AHPC and the APHDPC are currently being developed for future launch.

The new Principal Committees incorporate the following:

  1. The Australian Health Protection Committee (AHPC) will broaden the membership of the Australian Health Disaster Management Policy Committee with the chairs of the Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA), the Environmental Health Committee (enHealth) and the Public Health Laboratory Network (PHLN). It is chaired by the Australian Government (Ms Mary Murnane, Deputy Secretary, Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing).

Secretariat for this new Principal Committee is provided through the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

For further information please send an e-mail to ahpc@health.gov.au

  2. The Australian Population Health Development Principal Committee (APHDPC) comprises senior health development and health service officials from each jurisdiction. It incorporates the previous National Health Priority Action Council, its Expert Advisory Subcommittees, National Public Health Partnership in particular the Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention Working Group and the National Obesity Taskforce. The APHDPC is chaired by an AHMAC member (Mr Robert Griew, Secretary, Northern Territory Department of Health and Ageing).

The APHDPC will coordinate national effort towards an integrated health development strategy that includes primary and secondary prevention, primary care, chronic disease and child health and wellbeing.

Secretariat for this new Principal Committee is provided through the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

For further information please send an e-mail to aphdpc@health.gov.au

The new advisory structure is aimed to make advice to Australian jurisdictions more effective and timely, especially in the integration of prevention across all aspects of chronic disease management, and in bringing a greater focus to health protection, especially pandemic readiness.
